Two books, two perspectives on what defines our humanity:
In “Uplifted” (“Emporgehoben”), Iris Wameling tells a sharp-witted crime satire from seven different viewpoints: of a woman who escapes her tormentor and, years later, meets him again as a celebrated artist; of experts, lawyers, filmmakers, and agents whose paths intersect in a web of power, morality, and manipulation.
In “A Second Life” (“Ein zweites Leben”), the author turns her gaze inward: in the midst of her life, she is confronted with a fatal diagnosis—and writes about what remains when all outward things fall away. About love, family, and the realization that true beauty is only revealed in the light of transience.
A reading about connections and contradictions, about guilt and forgiveness, about life and death—and the question of what holds us together on this journey. Admission free, donations welcome.
