About
Friends of Be an Angel provides funding for humanitarian aid & evacuations. Its mission is to support Ukrainian refugee and rescue efforts implemented by the German & Moldovan NGO Be An Angel in partnership with other humanitarian groups including Women’s Movement for the Future. Together, we evacuate Ukrainians, especially the vulnerable–children, elderly, disabled & seriously ill. The partnership also delivers direct aid to Ukraine including food, clean water, medical equipment, supplies and medications, clothing, blankets and more–all the way to the front lines. Friends of Be an Angel was set up to give American individuals, foundations & companies the opportunity to support this extraordinary rescue and aid work on the ground in Ukraine during the Russian-led war and occupation.
Be an Angel is represented in the U.S. by Anya Verkhovskaya, Director of the Board of Friends of Be an Angel. Anya Verkhovskaya and her team coordinate donations coming from within the U.S. and Canada. They work with in-kind donations and humanitarian aid, then organize delivery to the front lines in Ukraine. Additionally, the team coordinates the evacuation of vulnerable people from Ukraine.
The are nearly 6.6 millions of internally displaced persons in Ukraine and over 9 million people have crossed the Ukrainian border since Russia invaded the country. Almost 2.2 millions Ukrainian citizens had to leaved their home in eastern Ukraine. Unfortunately, they currently have no place to come home to because their houses have been destroyed. Ten percent of internally displaced persons have not gotten any assistance from the Ukrainian government. They have dire needs, especially in light of winter coming soon. At least three million families are in Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhia, and Kherson regions, that are occupied by the Russian troops. They have no opportunity to buy simple everyday products such as meals, hygiene products, medical supply, and more. Even a simple cold or fever could lead to death! Also, Ukrainians are facing the coldest winter in the history of independence! The room temperatures are expected to be at 13-14°C inside homes at best during winter.

Evacuations of the vulnerable
Evacuate Ukrainians from conflict zones, including the disabled, elderly, ill, and most vulnerable. We provide transportation (by bus/train/car/plane), while partnering with other organizations to help with refugee stabilization, jobs, education, asylum application, and resettlement. We also house unaccompanied refugee minors with foster families and in shelters. We have aided more than 18,000 Ukrainians in the first six months of the war in 2022. The war in Ukraine continues and the numbers of casualties, traumas, and people affected continue to grow, so the work continues.
Bring humanitarian aid directly where it is needed
We find, purchase, deliver and distribute humanitarian aid to the most affected areas of Ukraine, even to hot zones. We provide medications, medical supplies, emergency equipment, hospital beds, baby food, water purification, food, clothing, blankets and much more. We have delivered and distributed over 5,500 tons of aid and more than one billion liters of clean water in just the first six months in 2022 and have much more work ahead of us.
Donate to save lives
No donation is too small. We are grateful for all help. For those donors who give more than $5,000, we offer a chance to work closely with our coordinators to pick a particular project they want to sponsor (100% of the donation will go towards that project). This might include the purchase of a certain amount of baby formula to be delivered to a certain location or a type of a location – always in the hotspots, where few organizations go… Anything and everything we do is based on need, and the need is endless.

We are only strong together.
Due to the war in Ukraine and the rising brutality of the Russian army, it is the civilians we urgently need to support. We receive cries for help every day. The longer the war continues, the sicker and poorer the people become. They are eventually forced to flee their homes. There are continuously more wounded children, elderly, women, and soldiers who need our help in form of medical supplies and medications.
We work in two ways: evacuation of individuals either by our busses or, if needed, in ambulances to EU countries. In some cases, people need emergency airlifts. We take care of complete evacuation from locating the needed to the point of arrival at the destination. In case of sick or wounded people, a hospital will take over the patient and assure appropriate treatment. The other focus is bringing in humanitarian aid, from medications and equipment to essentials like water purification supplies. We need to continue to help. We are one of the few smaller NGOs continuously being on the ground. We can assure any donation will go entirely to the purpose of helping the people in need.
